I currently only redirect stderr using subprocess.PIPE but not stdout, so as you
say, output looks "normal". I think that we do *not* want to use stderr for
warnings, for this reason, lab nowadays treats output to err as a failure. For
the same reason, we also changed all warning in the search to not write to
stderr but to stdout (e.g. unusual options in M&S). We only write to stderr if
exiting immediately afterwards.
